Warrington RUFC v Sefton Gunners Novemebr 2006

Sefton Gunners under 11/12’s took a big step up to play at the  under 12’s age level, as the number of under 12 (Year 7) players had increases to the point where this had to happen, our first outing to a well organised, long established and experienced Warrington, was always going to be a big challenge.

Warrington had a couple of very big players, a very fast and effective rush defence and good hands to move the ball out wide when they had the space. In reply we saw some outstanding tackling from Ethan (tackle of the match) and Martin (lots of very good tackles all game), who both deserve a special mention, as does the Captain Sam who as always lead by example.

For our first outing at this age level, against an established team, we performed well, but must all realise that we have a lot to learn, the learning starts on Thursday.

Training this week will see us practising “rush defence” and how to deal with it, positional play, restarts, and how to make space for ourselves, in preparation for our Hoylake encounter next week.

Please be on time so that we can start at 7:00pm.

See you then.

Paul.
