Lancashire cup Quarter final

Sefton Gunners u14 v Southport u14

Coming into this game the Gunners had a point to prove after a poor performance against Mold last time out. The build up had been hampered by injuries to 3 key players who all declared themselves fit to play.

The Gunners have a reputation of starting games slowly but you could sense that they were up for the game from the off and the forwards started to dominate possession. Southport tried a break down the wing which looked dangerous but good defense prevented an early score. This was to be one of the last attacking threats from Southport as Sefton took a stranglehold on the game with 2 tries in the 10th and 16th minute both scored by Jake with the first being converted by Peter. This was closely followed by a try on 21 minutes by Graeme who was having a commanding game. Jake then put the Gunners well and truly in control with 2 further tries in the 23rd and 25th minutes the first again well converted by Peter. Sefton were 29-0 up as the half time whistle blew.

The second half started in the same vain as the first with Sefton well in command and despite the difficult wet and windy conditions were putting on a performance to be proud of. Further tries were scored on 35 minutes by Graeme, 37 minutes by Anthony and 42 minutes by Scully, 2 of which were converted. On 50 minutes Jake rounded off an outstanding personal performance with his 5th try of the game again converted by Peter. The final whistle blew and Sefton walked away with a 55-0 win and a performance that they should be proud of. This win was built on a great team ethic with players supporting each other all over the pitch, and although it would be easy to say that Jakes 5 tries made him man of the match, every single player in a Sefton shirt deserves to be congratulated for an outstanding team performance.

This performance was no accident, it followed extra and more intensive training sessions over the previous 2 weeks. Great credit should go to Stu, Danny and all the other coaches as well as the players for there application. With the same desire who knows what they may achieve, possibly even a winners medal.

Thanks to Grant for the match report
