Letterkenny 2007 Cork 2006 Prague 2005 Centenary Tour 08 Bangor

The Letterkenny Tour

City of Derry Rugby Club and Derry YMCA Rugby Club

May 2007

Day one, Surprise rugby competition.

Day one and a couple of pints into the tour sees us at the City Derry Rugby Club, an excellent facility hosting
an over 35's tournament, well what a coincidence, greeted with beer by our hosts we knew this was our sort
of event, within minutes we fielded a team at the bar and prepared to play. Taking on as much liquid as
possible, our finely tuned athletes prepared to be tested.

Starting off a we meant to carry on,  with two players in front of the ball from the kick off, we had already scared
the opposition with our pre match hoki koki, a game of 8 halves ensued, that's a half a beer at each interval, we
impresses our hosts with our ability... to stand upright.

The evening saw us at our hotel in Letterkenny, a delightful town, with the longest street
in Ireland, filled with bars, lot's of music and nowhere to eat, clearly only drinking is
allowed in this town, so guess what we did.

The next morning (Sunday) Judge John, pounding his gabble (left), brought the proceedings
of the previous evening to a formal conclusion, handing out much deserved punishment,
via the un holy trinity, to those who had transgressed during the evenings entertainment,
failing the moose hunt being high on the list of offences.

Sunday lunch time and we return to the City of Derry Rugby Club for our official match against Londonderry YMCA.

The YMCA team warmed up, practiced moves, had pace, height and skill, we analysed this from the magnificent
bar overlooking the main pitch, and guessed they would be worn out by the time the referee arrived, that plan failed,
and although we managed a try, and being the perfect guests that we are, we allowed our opposition to enjoy
themselves with a host of tries. A well deserved victory the Londonderry YMCA.

Presentations

Meeting in the bar after the game, a number of presentation where made,
the biggest surprise that of the Mayor of Derry, Councillor Helen Quigley,
presenting Sefton with the City of Derry Rugby Club plaque, A Londonderry
YMCA plaque and some outstanding Derry Crystal, a most unexpected
pleasure.

Thankfully the Mayor of Derry departed before we started singing,
although I am sure she would have hade a good time.
